You’ve probably heard someone be accused of being stuck in their ways or having an old-fashioned set of beliefs. Perhaps you have been told you’re a pessimist – or an optimist. These are all different types of mindsets that are formed based on our past experiences and that can be changed.

Your mindset is your set of beliefs, values, and attitudes about yourself and the world around you.
Most people want a successful, happy life. There are likely goals to want to accomplish to help you get there. Whether these goals are for business, home, family, or self-improvement, setting your mindset for success is key to making things happen.

Whether you’re a natural pessimist or currently stuck in a rut, here are 10 simple tips to help you improve your mindset and as a result, change your life for the better.

1. Surrounding Yourself with Positive Influences
A negative social circle will act as an echo chamber for bad ideas. A positive social circle will also act as an echo chamber, but one that supports your dreams, so choose your friends carefully.
Find people who reflect the values you want to adopt. Join groups online and go to networking or social events focused on personal growth. As your mind starts to change, it’ll become easier to connect with more positive people.

2. Challenge your Thoughts.
The conversations you have with yourself are a direct reflection of your mindset. If you are telling yourself “I am not good enough to achieve my dreams”, your thoughts will create your reality and your mindset will hold you back from having the life you want. To upgrade your mindset, change your negative self-talk to an empowerment speech. Sounds cliché, but telling yourself “I can do this” or “I got this”, really works.
Weigh your thoughts against the evidence. If they crumble under scrutiny, then explore why you believe them in the first place. By challenging your thoughts, your mindset will begin to evolve.

3. Change your Language
After changing your inner thought dialogue and the story you are telling yourself, change the way you talk to other people. Avoid phrases like “I am always like this” or “I am always doing this” to encourage a growth mindset. Furthermore, make it a habit to talk about the things that are going well in your life instead of complaining and talking about your problems. This will encourage a mindset of abundance instead of fear and lack.

4. Challenge your Limiting Beliefs
Nearly everyone holds on to limiting beliefs that prevent them from realizing their dreams. Those who can challenge and overcome them go on to achieve their goals. Those who don’t continue to live in negative patterns – and often don’t even realize it.
Limiting beliefs are the stories we tell ourselves about who we are: shy, overweight, undeserving of love or success. They aren’t true, and they can be replaced with empowering beliefs.
Learn a positive self-dialogue and you’ll see the world in a different way

5. Consume Positive Media.
Consuming positive media daily will alter your perspective through osmosis. “Positive media” is anything that emphasizes the good in life, or how to improve our living standards and the living standards of others.
We all know that the best way to learn a new language is through immersion. If you hear this new language every day, it starts to stick and become easier to remember. Soon, you’ll not only understand that language but you’ll speak it too.
New mindsets are the same; if you immerse yourself in personal growth content every day, it will change the language of your mind. That language is your self-dialogue, the way you speak to yourself at every moment, and it’s habitual.

6. Create New Habits to Support your Mindset Change
Integrate powerful habits into your day that help your mindset change and reinforce your thinking with action. If you are upgrading from a “fixed” to “growth” mindset, schedule time for learning and start noting down your learnings and achievements every day. If you are upgrading from a “destination” to a “journey” mindset, practice being mindful, enjoying the present moment, and celebrating small successes.

Clearing limiting beliefs requires self-compassion, and it is always a work in progress.
Choose a new belief and stay focused on it, till this new belief overwrites your previous limiting beliefs.
What new beliefs are you going to create? In what way will they express your true self?
Remember that your beliefs will be your reality, so why not adopt new beliefs like:

  1. Finding a good job is easy.
  2.  Miracles are everywhere and available for me too.
1& 2 can be any wonderful thing.

7. Write Out your Action Plan.
This is about looking at the possibilities and then doing something to make it happen. Forward thinking will move your focus away from where you don’t want to be to where could be.
Please note that it’s not enough to simply write it out, because we only grow when we take action. It’s just a thought until we do something to make it happen.
Don’t know what the right steps are?
Don’t worry, just identify the first thing you could do to start on the path, and then do it.
Even if it’s a mistake, you’ll still make progress, and that will keep you focused on creating positive change. Never allow paralysis by analysis. You have the vision; go with it.

8. Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle.
A healthy body will support a healthy mind.
Look at how you sleep, what you eat, and your activity levels to identify anything that could be sapping your energy. Sometimes laziness is just fatigue.

9. Send Thank You Notes.
So much frustration and disappointment in life can be avoided if we trade our expectations for appreciation. When you appreciate abundance instead of always expecting more – from the universe, others, and yourself – you’re able to be present in your life and enjoy it to the fullest.
The simple gesture of sending a thank you note can be empowering. Not only does it feel good, a thank you note creates goodwill in other people.
Thank you notes will also strengthen your relationships and connections because people like to feel appreciated.
It doesn’t matter what they did; any small gesture you appreciated, from good service to a favor, is a candidate. Send a quick email or a card in the mail to let them know you appreciate it.

9. Use Affirmations.
Affirmations can change your vibration and help rewrite your subconscious beliefs.
Using affirmations has a great effect on your conscious and subconscious (link*) levels and helps change your mindset.
